The festival will include 12 exhibitions by artists from 9 countries. It will also include a range of presentations and workshops.

Each day participants will meet from 10 am to 4 pm. The assigned topic will be "Closeness". Participants will make photographs of something which is very close to them, to their heart. They can interpret the word in their own way, conceptually. Photographs must be creative, personal and emotional.

KIMFF - The 6th Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival 2008

KIMFF, the only festival of its kind east of Suez, brings to Kathmandu Valley some of the most recent and exciting films about mountains, mountain environment, mountain cultures and communities from various corners of the world. KIMFF screens films produced during the last three years and features discussion forums, on-demand screenings, as well as exhibitions of books and photography celebrating mountains. The festival is organized with the conviction that human experiences in the world’s highlands, especially those in the developing countries, is worth documenting and sharing. KIMFF hopes not only to encourage a deeper understanding of the social and cultural realities of those regions but also to create a sense that the significance of those regions is often far-flung.

We wanted to change things up a bit so this month we have a film we would like to share with you.

"Nine Days in the Kingdom" is a documentary film about 55 of the world's great photographers.

How does a photographer capture that decisive moment, find the best light and interact with his or her subjects?

To provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at the world's top photographers at work, Editions Didier Millet has teamed up with two production houses to create multiple documentaries about the 9 Days adventure.

Hopping planes, trains and boats, film crews from Bangkok-based MCOT and Paris-based NGM Production were on-hand throughout Shoot Week to capture the action. Audiences will travel with the photographers to remote locations throughout Thailand, gaining insight into both the craft of photography and the diverse culture of this modern Kingdom.

Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom showcases the work of 55 of the worlds leading international photographers including several from Thailand. These photographers represent an international group of talents with a range of specialties; photojournalism, wildlife, underwater, aerial, landscape, portraits, architecture and more. Taken over a period of 9 days, the images captured by these world-class photographers stand as testimony to an exciting and evolving period in Thai history.

4th Annual Nature and Wildlife Amateur Photography Competition

Nature and Wildlife Photography has been a major part of YEP, for we believe photography can be a powerful advocacy tool for nature conservation. Photography reaches out to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Through this program YEP is trying to provide a platform for nature photographers to do justice to our natural heritage by capturing through pictures through their lenses so that its beauty or plight can reach out to people and bring them together to protect and conserve biodiversity. WCN has been organizing photography workshops in schools and colleges and for its in-house volunteers and this program has been particularly popular amongst the youth.

This program used to be conducted by ECAP and UWP, but due to its immense popularity and its huge forte YEP has decided it make it an independent entity itself and most of its activities are conducted through the YEP Photography Club. This year WCN has made a decision to accept up to four photographs from interested participants. This year WCN is conducting this Amateurs Nature and Wildlife Photography competition for the fourth year.

The theme of this first "Kathmandu Off Beat" photo contest was "Unconventional photos".

Having attracted more than 70 photographers, it generated interest for photographers to capture their unconventional insights of the city.

Through this contest, Alliance Française in Kathmandu remains committed to providing ongoing opportunities for photographers around Kathmandu to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike.

1. This contest is open to everybody; photo-lovers and professionals.
2. Submission dead-line: 30th November 2007.
3. You may submit photographs in any format (print or digital).
4. No digital manipulation is permitted.
5. You may submit only 1 photograph per person, directly at the Alliance Française in Kathmandu. *Please fill in a submission form.
6. The submitted photographs will not be returned to the artist.
7. A selection of 15 photographs will be exhibited from December 10th-31st 2007 at the Alliance Française in Kathmandu.
8. The winning photograph amongst these 15 will be used to illustratethe 2008 New Year postcard of the Alliance Française in Kathmandu.
9. The winner will be announced on December 14th 2007, chosen by a jury composed of photo-lovers, students and professionals.

"Nature Through Lens 3" a photography exhibition was inaugurated by his Excellency Mr. James F. Moriarty, Ambassador, Embassy of United States of America on 15th June, 2007. In the four day exhibition (15th to 18th, June 2007), 300 pictures of more than 100 participants of the 3rd Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition for Amateurs 2007, were on display. Judges for this competition were Mani Lama, Nripa Dhoj Khadka, Pradeep Shakya and Raj Bhai Suwal.

Winners of this competition were Mr. Vibek Raj Maurya (Grand prize winner), Mr Binod Rai (Landscape category winner), Mr Yatra Thulung(Fauna category winner), Mr. Sanjay Lama (Macro category winner) and Mr. Ragendra Dev Adhikari (Flora category winner), The rest of the TOP TEN photographers included; Yatra Thulung, Rabi Karmacharya, Ujwal Bhattarai, Janak Khattiwada and Silvia Del Conte.

This exhibition not only promotes amateur photographers and nature photography in Nepal but also raises funds for conservation at local level in the Kathmandu Valley and supports young researchers to carry out studies on Urban Wildlife. In addition, WCN Photography Program brings people together from all walks of the life towards a common cause of nature and wildlife conservation through the medium of photography.

WCN has been organizing photography competition on Nature and Wildlife which has been very popular amongst the youth. Through this national level competition WCN/YEP is trying to provide a platform for nature photographers to do justice to our natural heritage by capturing pictures through their lenses so that its beauty can reach out to people and bring them together to protect and conserve biodiversity. Take a walk through the wild side at a photography exhibition ‘Nature Through Lens 3’, which was inaugurated at the Nepal Art Council by American Ambassador James F Moriarty on June 15.
Organised by Wildlife Conservation Nepal, there are over 300 photographs on display that were taken by more than 100 amateur photographers. These photographs were submitted for the WCN Third Annual Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition for Amateurs 2007.
Moriarty said, “The photographs will not only bring awareness about the present situation of nature and wild-life, but due to the conservation movement the younger generation will be thankful to the organisation.”
The competition was divided into four categories — Macro, Fauna, Flora and Landscape. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges comprising renowned photographers — Raj Bhai Suwal, Pradeep Shakya, Nripa Dhoj Khadka and Mani Lama. The winners were Vibek Raj Maurya (Grand prize winner), Binod Rai (Landscape), Yatra Thulung (Fauna), Sanjay Lama (Macro) and Ragendra Dev Adhikari (Flora).
The competition not only promotes amateur photographers and nature photography in Nepal but also raises funds for conservation at the local level and supports young researchers to carry out studies in urban wildlife.
The exhibition is on till June 18.

This is my invitation card of “Nature Through Lens 3” a photography exhibition. This year is my second time on “Nature Through Lens 3” a photography exhibition and on WCN 3rd Annual Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition for amateur 2007. Last year at “Nature Through Lens 2” this photograph was on top ten.

I am happy for this year also thought the result will come later today. I am happy that this is my second group exhibition and being part of it and I am also very much excited about it. This year few photographs are on sale also so if you like my photographs on exhibition please get it for your office’s wall. The proceeds will help WCN to conduct conservation activities at local level.

I cordially invite you all to the “Nature Through Lens 3” a photography exhibition showcasing 300 photographs of more than 100 amateur photographers of WCN 3rd Annual Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition for amateur 2007.

Sports: Udipt Singh Chhetri (1st), Tashi R Ghale (2nd), Prakash Mathema (3rd).
Environment: Sailendra Kharel (1st), Janak Nepal (2nd), Saligram Tiwari (3rd).
Feature: Ekal Silwal (1st), Chandra Shekhar Karki (2nd), Sailendra Kharel (3rd).
News: Rajendra Manandhar (1st), Rabi Manandhar (2nd), Sundar Shrestha (3rd).
All above winners were awarded plaque with Rs. 15000, 10000 and 5000. The Grand Prize of Rs. 50,000 and a trophy with the title “Press Photo of the Year 2006” was awarded to Sagar Shrestha.
