Frédéric Lecloux, a traveller, a writer and a photographer, was born in 1972 in Brussels and lives in Drôme, southern France. His pictures are distributed by Vu' Agency in Paris and is represented by Gallery Emotion-Lydie Trigano, in Paris. His work is deeply influenced by his first travel in the Himalayas at the age of 20 and by the reading of Nicolas Bouvier masterpiece, The Way of the World. In 2005 he followed Bouvier road to the Khyber Pass to write his own homage to the Swiss writer, in text and images. His long-term work on contemporary Nepal is one of the only auteur- and humanist photographic analysis of the society of this country and its mutations. He is the author of Au coeur de l'Himalaya (1998) and Katmandou 2058 (2003) published by La Renaissance du Livre, Lentement vers l'Asie by Glénat (2006) and L'Usure du Monde published by Le Bec en l'Air, 2008. http://yetiphoto.siteinternet.com

We wanted to change things up a bit so this month we have a film we would like to share with you.
"Nine Days in the Kingdom" is a documentary film about 55 of the world's great photographers.
How does a photographer capture that decisive moment, find the best light and interact with his or her subjects?
To provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at the world's top photographers at work, Editions Didier Millet has teamed up with two production houses to create multiple documentaries about the 9 Days adventure.
Hopping planes, trains and boats, film crews from Bangkok-based MCOT and Paris-based NGM Production were on-hand throughout Shoot Week to capture the action. Audiences will travel with the photographers to remote locations throughout Thailand, gaining insight into both the craft of photography and the diverse culture of this modern Kingdom.
Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom showcases the work of 55 of the worlds leading international photographers including several from Thailand. These photographers represent an international group of talents with a range of specialties; photojournalism, wildlife, underwater, aerial, landscape, portraits, architecture and more. Taken over a period of 9 days, the images captured by these world-class photographers stand as testimony to an exciting and evolving period in Thai history.

4th Annual Nature and Wildlife Amateur Photography Competition
Nature and Wildlife Photography has been a major part of YEP, for we believe photography can be a powerful advocacy tool for nature conservation. Photography reaches out to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Through this program YEP is trying to provide a platform for nature photographers to do justice to our natural heritage by capturing through pictures through their lenses so that its beauty or plight can reach out to people and bring them together to protect and conserve biodiversity. WCN has been organizing photography workshops in schools and colleges and for its in-house volunteers and this program has been particularly popular amongst the youth.
This program used to be conducted by ECAP and UWP, but due to its immense popularity and its huge forte YEP has decided it make it an independent entity itself and most of its activities are conducted through the YEP Photography Club. This year WCN has made a decision to accept up to four photographs from interested participants. This year WCN is conducting this Amateurs Nature and Wildlife Photography competition for the fourth year.

Smiling State
A Smile Portfolio of Nepalese Leaders

Presently, our country is going through many changes. Though most of us are not sure about the results, we are all hopeful for the best. We hope that the “New Nepal” everyone dreams about would come true in the coming days.
We have always seen the political leaders give heated speeches, protest in the streets and show their cunning sides. Very little have we seen them in their lighter moments. In this exhibition, Gallery 32 @ Dent Inn has collected those rare moments from the lenses of Pushpa K.C., where our leaders are seen smiling and sharing their lighter moments of life.
Pushpa has been exposed to many faces of the politicians in his photojournalism career. His interest diverted him to capture these light moments within the heated political moments.
We wish that after the election, the leaders would be seen smiling more than protesting on the streets. We also hope that the Nepalese people will be able to smile like their leaders in these pictures. We wish for a “Smiling State”!

About Artist:
Pushpa K C, Photographer
Pushpa KC who loves to take pictures of nature, started his photographic career from 1995 after completing his basic photography training. He Is involved with various national weeklies as a photojournalist since then. He is presently working with “Jana Aastha National Weekly”, a French magazine called “En…Vies” and other photographic projects.
His photographic journey includes work with Save the Children (SC)-UK (presently known as SC-Norway) as a Consultant-Photographer. His assignment with SC was to photo-document ongoing activities of SC-UK projects implemented in different parts of the country. Story collections and photographs taken by him was published in different publications of SC and was also exhibited in the national level advocacy event – The Journey of SoVAA projects titled “Our Voice-Our Emotion” in Kathmandu. His photographs can also be viewed in branches of Standard Chartered Bank.
His recent exhibition was held in Strasbourg, France titled “Scenes of Nepal”. He has also exhibited his photographs in various other exhibitions in past years.

About the Facilitators
Neil Eschenfelde
Neil Eschenfelder began his photography experience in college. Instantly hooked , Neil began working in the retail end of the photo business while working at numerous photographic venues including running a photo studio, working with the Salt Lake Public Defenders Association producing courtroom art for trail and working with several advertising agencies. Stretching from more traditional landscape, portrait and commercial photography. Neil brought his talents to bear becoming a SCUBA instructor as well as an underwater photography instructor, leading numerous adventures to the Caribbean and Pacific, compiling thousands of slides. Enjoying instruction, Neil agreed to exercise his abilities by joining the University of Utah's Lifelong Learning Department, developing a basic photo class then branching into digital by creating the first digital photo class which continues as a top draw to this day. Neil recently landed at Pixels Foto and Frame in Sandy, running the company education department as well as building the company's very successful photo safari program, including trips to Africa and expeditions to seek our polar bears in Alaska.
Nripa Dhoj Khadka
Nripa Dhoj Khadka, a senior instructor of Electronics and Computer Engineering at Pulchowk Campus has been leaching computers and electronics every weekdays for the last 25 years but during weekends and free time, he leads a different life- a life of a passionate nature photographer. It has now been over 30 years that he has been capturing images of wild flowers, insects and birds. Not very interested in fame, Mr. Khadka kept his work hidden from the world all this time; however talent and dedication as strong as his can never hidden for long. His work appeared in the public for the first time in January 2005 when he took part in a photography competition organized Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) for amateurs. he participated in the competition because it was a charitable event for nature conservation and he came out as a winner and from that point forward he has not been able to crawl back to his shell from people who have begun to appreciate his work. And he today is called the bestókept secret in the field of photography of Nepal. A collection of his photographs of insect appeared in June issue of ECS Magazine. His photographic seminar organized by WCN in May 2005 for students to appreciate the ecology of Godawari was a huge success. He is currently advisor of the nature photographers club at WCN.

Photo Exhibition: Hidden Japan
The Embassy of Japan in association with Japanese Universities Alumni Association, Nepal (JUAAN) and Japanese Language Teachers' Association, Nepal (JALTAN) has organized a photo exhibition: 'Hidden Japan' from March 7 to March 19, 2008 at the Embassy Hall. Ambassador Mr. Tatsuo Mizuno, Mr. Prachanda Man Shrestha, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Bal Bahadur Parajuli, President of JUAAN and Mr. Nurbu Lama, President of JALTAN jointly inaugurated the exhibition on March 5, 2008. The exhibition is supported by the Japan Foundation.
The photographs on display are from Mr. KijuroYahagi's collection. These photographs are outcome of his picture-taking journey throughout Japan extending over some 20,000 kilometers, exploring the very deepest layers of Japan. Some photos present animistic scenes involving natural features and objectives as mountains, rocks, stones and trees. The others present scenes such as rock gardens, fields surrounded by mountains, fisherman's house surrounding a small harbor, a large city full of hurrying pedestrians, traffic jam, etc. Each picture exhibited brings to the surface glimpses of various aspects of Japan. In other words, his collections reflect Japan as it. Mr. Yahagi who has won numerous prestigious awards both in Japan and abroad is an internationally recognized photographer.
